Combaticon Vortex is the first of the team to be released that combines into Bruticus, and he transforms into a gray military helicopter that is inspired by the Transformers G1 cartoon of the 1980’s. Vortex becomes an arm for Bruticus, which is an essential character for the Decepticons.

Vortex is packaged in the standard deluxe window box for the line, with artwork, logo’s and images on all sides, and the back includes a look at him in both modes. Included is a sheet of instructions for transforming him.
Vortex is inspired by his 1985 release, and given a modern updated sculpt to fit in with today’s Transformers line. He is also an improvement over the Combiner Wars offering, as this one is certainly more G1 accurate. Vortex is mostly dark grey, along with black on the front of the bottom legs, blue upper legs, hips, chest, and other places on the body.
He also includes a purple Decepticon logo on his left shoulder, and the head sculpt includes a red visor, metallic silver face plate, a grey helmet, and the back includes a blue landing wheel for his helicopter mode.
Vortex includes detachable arm-mounted cannons (x2), and a handheld blaster, which is bigger. The arm-mounted cannons attach to the sides of his arms, while the blaster he can hold. The rotors on his back can also be removed and attached to the back of his arms to be used as an additional weapon.
In robot mode, his articulation includes a ball jointed head, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged elbows, swivel waist, swivel-hinged hips, hinged knees and hinged ankles.
His vehicle mode UH-60 Black Hawk Helicopter, which is also inspired by his G1 appearance. The vehicle mode is mostly grey, with black windows on the sides and windshield, a blue stripe on the front, and the center of the roton is metallic silver, while the rotors are dark grey. Unmentioned in the instructions, the nose can angled upward, which is because these are also his ankles in robot mode. The vehicle mode features a rotating roton on top, one in the back, and the cannons and blaster can be placed on the sides of the body. The underside of the helicopter tail also has recesses, which allows the small arm-mounted cannons to attach on the tabs that they can blend into the body.
Overall, Vortex is a great figure and the best representation of the character to-date. This is an essential buy especially if you want to build Bruticus, which is one of the most popular of the combiners. Make sure to grab him and other figures now at BigBadToyStore!
