In 1982, Hasbro originally offered the M.M.S. (Mobile Missile System) Vehicle that came with Hawk as part of the intital launch of this new era of G.I. Joe toys and collectibles, which was part of the 3 3/4″ 0-ring line. The M.M.S. (Mobile Missile System) is used by the G.I. Joe team in combat, and the M.M.S. also attaches to the back of the VAMP.

The G.I. Joe Classified Series #182 Clayton Hawk Abernathy Figure with M.M.S. (Mobile Missile System) Vehicle is packaged in a window box, with only Clayton Hawk Abernathy showing on the front, and the package includes some great product photography on the front showcasing what’s inside, images on both sides, and a look at all of the contents on the back. Inside, Hawk is placed in a plastic tray, along with his accessories, and there is a separate plastic tray for the guns. The M.M.S. requires assemble and comes in a cardboard trap, and the effects come in baggies. Also included is a sheet of instructions.
Clayton Hawk Abernathy is inspired by the 1982 figure that was originally included with the M.M.S., and he comes in his dark green suit, with a black vest, black pouches on his hips with straps, black holsters for the pistols, black boots, black and grey vest, black belt with a metallic silver belt buckles on the front and back, There is also some grey such as a pouch on his biceps. The vest also has his name on the top over the grey part.
Clayton Hawk Abernathy is given a a great likeness with nicely done facial details, and blonde hair with a wash. He includes a helmet, with a visor that lifts up, and a mouth piece.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head and neck, swivel-hinged and butterfly shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ab crunch, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel calves, hinged and rocker ankles.
Included with Hawk is a holster for a rifle and it also has a spot for the knife. Also included are three rifles, two pistols, a knife, and a helmet. All of his hand-held weapons look great and fit perfectly into the open grip hands, which also have a trigger finger that allows them to fit in better.
The M.M.S. (Mobile Missile System) is a modern update into the 6″ line and also inspired by its original 1982 release. It features three missiles on top that can be removed, and marked with details and paint applications, such as Beware Blast, XRU8001, and the star symbol. The M.M.S. is mostly green, with some black, red, yellow and blue details. The body also has some paint applications and text, such as various warning signs and symbols throughout the body. The tires can rotate, and the four stands fold-up. The platform in the back can be closed at the end so it can connect to the VAMP so it can also become a rear transport. Some additional details include a removable panel on the side with a hidden computer, which is nicely painted and sculpted into the body.
Also included are effects that can be placed around the M.M.S., and there are two missile firing effects that fit on the back of the missiles, one larger than the other. The effects are made with translucent orange with a white wash.
The VAMP and the M.M.S. connect as shown using the rear platform, and the VAMP can now pull the M.M.S. when the tires are on the ground. This is a hidden detail and the instructions or images on the back do not show this, but was made public knowledge by the G.I. Joe team.
Hawk can also fit inside the VAMP if you choose, and he looks great next to Clutch.
Overall, Clayton Hawk Abernathy Figure with M.M.S. (Mobile Missile System) Vehicle is an excellent offering and a nice update in this modern 6″ line. This vehicle is almost never seen in a G.I. Joe and has only had at least three offerings in the 3 3/4″-4″ line over the years, so it’s great to see it brought into the 6″ line. Hawk is also a great addition to the line and a character you need to add to your collection.It’s great to see this set make the cut in the 6″ line and this is surely a great offering and one you should add to your collection.
