Playmates Toys is offering a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Classic Mutants box set that offers re-issues of Antrax, Scale Tail, Wyrm and Usagi Yojimbo that were offered back in the original line. This set is a milestone as these figures are getting re-issued for the first-time, as announced back at New York ToyFair 2025.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Classic Mutants Box Set comes in a box with a plastic handle on top, with nicely done artwork featuring a number of characters from both cartoons and comics on all sides. The bottom of the box shows the contents, including the figures inside. Each figure comes on a retro inspired blister card, with images and logo’s on the front, and the back includes comic panels from the original packaging, additional figures that also have been reissued, and a bio.
Antrax was originally released in 1991, and is the Executioner in Dimension X. He is a four-armed insect looking alien, with black skin, a gold chest, gold and red on the arms, purple shorts that are torn, purple boots (with the left one torn), and gold knee and shoulder pads. His lower back includes a sculpted dagger that is purple and is stinger is red and black that’s given sculpted detail.
His head sculpt includes a purple hoodie with insect eyes, mouth and antenna’s. The sides of the mouth shoes his teeth, which are grinning, and above that you see his gums. There re also insect pinchers that rotate and stick out of his nostrils.
Antrax’s articulation includes a swivel neck, swivel pinchers, swivel shoulders x4, swivel forearm (upper right), swivel wrist (lower left), ball jointed hips and swivel stinger.
He includes all of his original accessories that came with the original release, including Ante-up Axe with Nasty Noose, Beat ’em Back Bat, and The Old Ball & Chain.
Scale Tail was originally released in 1992, and is a bounty hunter from Dimension X. He is an alien snake, and has the appearance of that with a sculpted scales on his skin, and is light green and yellow. His outfit includes a purple harness, with a blue tank top that is torn, a purple belt with black accessories that includes a sword and blaster sculpted to it. The right arm has three snakes wrapped around, each with a sculpted and painted head, and the left arm includes armor that is orange and purple. The tail has a blaster at the end, which is sculpted to it and has a snake sticking out the back of it.
HIs head sculpt looks great and has the tongue sticking out the mouth, which appears to shoot something out of it such as venom. The facial details look great and includes the sculpted scales, painted eyes, and some dark green deco along with the light green and yellow. The tongue can swivel to both sides, and is a separate piece from the head.
His articulation includes a swivel neck, swivel shoulders, swivel elbow, and the tail has four hinged joints.
Included are the same accessories that came with his original release, including Belly Bustin’ Backpack, Scale Shooter, Wattage Whip, and Vicious Venom Pistol.
Wyrm was originally released in 1991, and was a human trash man that was mutated when he slipped into Shredder’s garbage bin. Wyrm comes in a light green suit with the words Unsanitation Dept. on the front, with a blue skin tone that has sculpted details on the clothes and skin, a tentacle right leg that is blue, with some yellow and purple on the leg and front of the lower torso. He also has a blue boot on his left foot that is torn, a red glove on his right hand, with worms for fingers that are purple.
His head sculpt includes a green and purple face, with the face lumpy with curves, purple hair that when pushed back it moves the eyes, and a mouth with white teeth, and a red tongue. The jaw opens when the back of the head is pressed down.
His articulation includes a hinged jaw, swivel shoulders, swivel elbows, and ball jointed hips.
Included are the same accessories that came with his original release, including the Trash Compactor Mallet, Worm Knife, Worm Belt, Porcuepounder and Munchy Mouth Worms.
Usagi Yojimbo was originally released in 1989, and was brought to present day New York City by Donatello’s trans-dimensional portal from ancient Japan. He comes in his dark blue Samurai armor, with additional armor on his shoulders and upper legs that are also dark blue, but also given yellow and purple. The armor has a sculpted texture and pattern, and he comes in purple pants, a black belt, black sandals, and dark blue bands on his wrists. He comes in white sculpted fur, which covers the head and ears, part s of the arms and feet.
His head sculpt includes light blue eyes, a black nose, white teeth, and nicely done facial details. Around his neck is a yellow necklace, and his ears are sculpted upward with a purple scurchie.
His articulation includes a swivel head, swivel shoulders, swivel elbows, and ball jointed hips.
Usagi includes he same accessories that came with his original release, including a curved spear, fist dagger, dagger, long and short swords. These accessories are connected to the weapons rack, which can be removed, and the weapons rack can be used to place some of the accessories on it for storage.
Overall, Playmates Toys has come through for fans looking to obtain characters and figures that they owned back as a child with this new box set, and it’s surely an excellent offering with lots of nostalgia that fans will love. Make sure to grab the set once released.
