This is a brand that I personally have been waiting a long time for a revival, and while Chicken Fried Toys are offering 4″ versions of these characters, Fresh Monkey Fiction is going back to what they were originally in the 1980’s, 6″ scaled and highly articulated and detailed. This brand was also more than a decade ahead of its time in 1988, and Toybiz introduced action figures in this scale and articulation in 2000 in their Spider-Man Classics line. Bulletproof is packaged in a window box with an opening flap, with artwork featuring the character along with logo’s and some great artwork inspired by the series on all sides. The back of the packaging includes a description, a bio, images of the character, and a look at Longarm and Dr. Badvibes as they are next to be released. Bulletproof comes in a plastic tray for safe keeping, along with his accessories. Some of the accessories come in poly bags, such as the soft goods trench coat, base, effect parts for the gun and handcuffs.
Bulletproof is inspired by his 1988 action figure, and given some modern updates to this new era while paying tribute to his classic design. He comes in a light yellow shirt with a black stripe, with the lower abdominal and upper legs are stainless steel as he was saved by doctors that replaced part of his body with cybernetics and nanosurgery. He also comes in dark brown pants, white and brown shoes. The stainless steel design has some nicely done sculpted details, including what looks like a police badge star on the front.
He comes with two head sculpts, both similar with the exception of the position of the black glasses, which are non-removable.
Bulletproof includes five sets of interchangeable hands (closed fisted, two sets of open grip, right pointy finger, left thumbs up, right police badge hand, and left sunglasses holding hand), a briefcase with handcuffs, a gun, a trench coat, effect pieces for the gun, and a stand. The briefcase has a removable handle, so you can remove the handcuffs, and it also opens to reveal the sculpted details inside.
The trench coat comes with an interchangeable belt, with one including a belt buckle. The coat includes buttons and has some nice attention to details. The gun includes two effect pieces, including a blaster, and a smoke effect that plugs into it.
The gun fits in and of the open grip hands, and the effect pieces make a nice addition to this figure, which was not offered with this vintage toy release.
The police badge right hand is one of the most appealing accessories, and it was a nice idea to sculpt it to the hand as it won’t fall out. The base includes the Cops ‘N Crooks logo on top, along with two pegs for his feet.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head and neck, ball hinged and butterfly shoulders, ball jointed torso and lower abdomen, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball joined hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.
Overall, Bulletproof is an excellent figure and a great first offering for the line, which has been in desperate need of a modern update for decades now. The Cops ‘N Crooks line was one of the most memorable brands of the late 1980’s and this modern line is certainly off to a great start.
