Hasbro is now offering their G.I. Joe Classified Series 6″ Destro and Iron Grenadier Despoiler figure and vehicle, which is inspired by the 1988 release as part of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero vintage o-ring line. In the vintage line, the Iron Grenadier Despoiler is compatible with the D.E.M.O.N. (Dual Elevating Multi-Ordinance Neutralizers), which was also released in 1988 and sits on top of this. While unconfirmed, it’s possible that the D.E.M.O.N. could be a future vehicle offered in Classified, either as a general release, or a made-to-order offering remains to be seen.

Destro and Iron Grenadier Despoiler are packaged in a window box, with images, artwork and logo’s on all sides, including a closer look of the set and accessories on the back. They are packaged in a cardboard box, with Destro coming in a plastic tray along with some of his accessories. Other accessories are stored in poly bags, such as a sword and sheath, as well as the shield. The other accessories are stored inside the black box, which is located behind Destro in the packaging. This includes the Despoiler’s Vertical stabilizers, and the missiles.

Destro comes in an all-new sculpt and is also based on his vintage 1988 o-ring figure by Hasbro that also came with the Despoiler. The suit is his Iron Grenadier armor, which is mostly black, with metallic gold, a reddish-brown belt with gold belt buckle, a reddish-brown scarf with a gold and red jewel, and some of the details on the armor have gold skull’s. The shoulder pads are made of a soft plastic to allow the shoulders full range of motion in the articulation, and the holster for the revolver has a loose fitting strap around his right thigh. The red cape is made of soft goods, which is attached to the upper back. The sculpt is also given some nicely done sculpted details, such as sculpted patterns, gold accents, and a black collar around his head.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head and neck, ball-hinged and butterfly shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ab crunch, ball jointed waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double hinged knees, swivel boots, hinged and rocker ankles.

Destro includes two head sculpts, each with a gold head, with one featuring an open mouth with white teeth and a painted tongue, while the other is closed. The eyes on both are a glaring green eye balls that look menacing.

The vintage Destro figure came with the short sword, this new release however is a great upgrade in the 6″ scale, with new accessories that define this version of Destro like never before. The short curved sword he comes with is clearly inspired by the original box art of the vintage offering, and they even gave him a scabbard that attaches to his hip to store it on. A revolver is also included that can be stored in the holster on his right thigh.

Also included is a shield with a sword, face, details and patterns sculpted on, and the back half of that includes two machine guns as a hidden feature, a handle and clip that his arm can hold onto. Also included is a long sword that he can hold with one or two hands.

The Despoiler is a great update to the vintage toy release, and it’s bigger with more detail and accessories than ever offered before. The labels are already applied, which is helpful, and it comes in its classic Iron Grenadiers colors, including black, gold, with a red seat. Some assembly is required, such as the wings, Vertical stabilizers, and missiles. The wings are curved and underneath is where most of the missiles are stored, while the two smaller missiles are placed in the front. There is no spring loaded feature as the missiles need to be fired/removed manually by you.

Some additional features include the cockpit, such as the view screen that’s a label, the seat, handlebars he can hold. The laser gun in the front can pivot around, just as the vintage toy did.
Overall, Destro and the Iron Grenadier Despoiler is a great addition to the line and a fantastic update and upgrade from the vintage release, and this is a set that has been long overdue for a modern release in any G.I. Joe scale or line. This is an essential offering for Destro, and this is certainly going to be one of this years most memorable G.I. Joe Classified offerings. This is a set that you need to add to your collection, so make sure to grab this and additional offerings now at BigBadToyStore by clicking HERE!
