Mattel – DC Comics Multiverse 6″ Lex Luthor Collect & Connect Wave Vixen Figure Review

Mattel is now offering their DC Comics Multiverse 6″ Lex Luthor Collect & Connect Wave, which includes Vixen, The Ray, Rebirth Wonder Woman and Gaslight Batman. Vixen makes her debut in this line as she has been a long overdue character to be given the special plastic treatment, and sculpted by none other than the Four Horsemen themselves. Over the years, Vixen has become better known outside of comic books, with two versions of her appearing on DC’s live-action Legends of Tomorrow television series, a numerous animated series appearances such as Justice League Unlimited and Batman: The Brave and the Bold, video games and more.

Since Mattel and the Four Horsemen teamed up to create DC figures around 2007, Vixen has appeared on many wish-lists, and surprisingly never was given a figure, even on the Mattycollector DC Infinite Earths Signature Collection that sole purpose was to offer fan requested characters, team builders and such iconic characters such as Vixen. Moving forward to 2018, Vixen is at last being offered, and while Mattel could have done her in a variety of costumes, this figure is offered in her DC Comics Rebirth outfit.

Thank you to Mattel for providing their DC Comics Multiverse 6″ Lex Luthor Collect & Connect Wave Vixen Figure for review.

Availability: December 2018

Vixen is sculpted and painted in her costume as seen in DC Comics Rebirth, with some slight changes of the yellow being brighter than shown as darker in the comics. Vixen is painted in her yellow and black costume, which are also colors featured on all of her outfits. This figure is mostly comprised of a bright yellow with black deco on her back, sides, black stripes, a black collar, white diamonds around her waist that are supposed to be similar to her necklace, and white stripes on her lower legs (the reference material we found showed black stripes). Her necklace is nicely done and includes a black thin line, with silver deco. The necklace, otherwise known as the Tantu Totem which is a talisman that helps Vixen tap into her abilities to of Animal imitation.

Her head sculpt features some of the best sculpting on this figure, with an extremely detailed face and hair with texture and a wash on it. Her earrings are also nicely done and painted in gold. Her wrists are covered in gold and black striped wrist bands, which are also shown in the comic.

Included with Vixen is an Eagle that’s channeled using her powers, and the Eagle has swivel wings and a textured body. He is made of transparent purple plastic.

Vixen’s articulation includes a ball jointed neck, ball hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.

Overall, Vixen is an excellent figure with a superior figure sculpt and a great likeness. The head sculpt has some of the best sculpting of the wave. Check back for more reviews of this wave coming soon.
