Mattel continues to offer new Masters of the Universe Cartoon Collection figures that are inspired from the 1980’s Filmation series, of both He-Man and She-Ra. This wave offers figures from both, including She-Ra and Mantenna from She-Ra Princess of Power, and Ram Man from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. This is also the first-time since Masters of the Universe Classics that She-Ra and Mantenna have been offered and inspired from the cartoon, but Ram Man unfortunately was not offered in MOTU Classics of his Filmation likeness, only vintage toy. So this is Ram Man’s first Cartoon figure, which is a historic release.

Each figure is packaged on the standard blister card, with great artwork on both sides, a description and a look at the wave on the back.
Included are sheets of instructions showing which parts are interchangeable, and the Horde Invasion Mini-Comic with each figure.
She-Ra: Princess of Power is given a much needed new release in Origins and this time around she is inspired from the 1980’s Filmation cartoon. She-Ra comes in her white skirt, with gold details, gold boots, and blue gems on her chest, sword and shield. Her cape is made of a soft red plastic, and her head sculpt is given the best likeness to the Filmation cartoon that was ever released. Her head sculpt includes the headband with wings, and a red jewel in the center. The long blonde hair and facial details look great and I for one cannot get over how great the likeness is.
The first release was inspired from the vintage toy, and is given an all-new sculpt and accessories to match her Filmation likeness, which as you can see is vastly different than the previous release. She-Ra was offered in Masters of the Universe Classics Filmation line and released by Super7 as they had continued the line for several years. This likeness however did not meet exceptions from fans and the face did change a little from the prototype to final product. For years this is all we had from the Filmation line, until now, and She-Ra is given a much better likeness in Origins.
Ram Man makes his debut as an action figure inspired from the Filmation cartoon as this version of Ram Man did not make it into Classics. We’ve previously gotten Ram Man figures inspired from the vintage toy or another series, just not his original 80’s appearance. This is another great likeness, and he comes in his red, green light grey and black outfit, which is his iconic look. His head sculpt is helmeted, with a flat head for ramming opponents, and his facial details match the source material.
Ram Man includes the Shokoti idol.
Ram Man is a bit taller than his first release and is given an all-new sculpt, and is a visually better looking figure. Unfortunately he does not come with accessories, but the first release of Ram Man did, which came with two axes. Unfortunately once again, the axes don’t fit into Ram Man’s hands too well and he can’t grip onto them.
Mantenna is my personal favorite Horde member, so getting a new figure of him is always a treat. This offering is also based on his Filmation cartoon likeness, which you saw on She-Ra: Princess of Power in the 1980’s. Mantenna has a unique character design and this figure pays a great tribute to it, with the four legs, two arms, Horde logo on his chest, and features pop out eyes by pressing the button inward on the back of the head. The head sculpt also pays a great tribute to the character likeness, and they nailed it as far as the source material.
Here is a comparison with his MOTU Classics Filmation Mantenna release, which as you can see the vast differences between the two figures despite being inspired from the same design. The Origins release has a better likeness, which isn’t something I say lightly over MOTU Classics. Everything from the blue tone to sculpt is perfect, with the exception that he does not come with a blaster that the Classics release did.
The articulation is standard for the line, and the parts are interchangeable with other Origins style figures, including Masters of the WWE Universe, WWE Superstars, and Turtles of Grayskull.
Overall, this is a phenomenal wave that Mattel put out and all three figures have the best Filmation likenesses that has ever been offered. These are surely going to be remembered, so make sure to grab these figures now while you can.
