Mattel is now offering their Mattel Masters of the Universe Origins Cartoon Collection Modulok figure that is inspired from the She-Ra: Princess of Power cartoon from the 1980’s, and joins an already impressive line-up. He is also part of the 40th Anniversary Celebration of She-Ra. Modulok is a powerful member of the Evil Horde, and can create thousands of different shapes and monsters to confuse his opponents.

Modulok comes in a brown mailer box, with artwork of the character on both the front and back. He is packaged in a window box with a lot of great artwork on the front, sides and back showing some of the options to pose and display this figure, but keep in mind he can be transformed into thousands of different ways and this is a character that you can be creative with. The back of the package includes some great artwork and possibly some spoilers of characters that could be offered in the Origins line at some point. There is a also a sheet with a breakdown of parts that are included, but he does not have an instruction sheet.
He comes packaged in a plastic tray, along with all the parts that are neatly placed around him.
Modulok can be transformers in thousands of different ways, and this form comes right from the plastic tray. The two heads are both unique with white and green eyes, shapes and distinct features. You have the ability to place both heads on top or anywhere else using one of the joints as shown. The arms and legs are also able to be swapped out and placed anywhere, but these particular arms are his most memorable as they are clawed. There are 34 body parts, all can be connected to create variations of this terrifying monster.
A breakdown of the articulation is shown in the video using the form above. Keep in mind depending on how many parts you use, the articulation will vary.
 
You also have the option to to use one head on top, and swap out the arms and legs. There is only one torso, so unless you buy a second Modulok figure you won’t be able to display both characters like this as shown.
This is my personal favorite form of Modulok, using both heads, all 4 arms, all 6 legs, and many of the joints and connectors you can create something menacing looking such as this. He also includes 2 blasters, but those can be placed together to create one long blaster. The 4 arms include 2 clawed, and 2 open grip hands allowing him to hold the blasters and shield.
He also includes a shield, which includes 2 Horde Empire symbols.
The box showcases all of these different options to display this figure and each one has their own unique take on him. Of course there are many more options to display him and you can be as create as you want, that’s the beauty about this villain. One aspect about Modulok is that you can use a form without using one of his heads and he still looks menacing and formidable,
Other than the shield, there are no Horde symbols on this figure, just like in the Filmation series. This is the only Horde member without symbols on his body, but fans know which faction he belongs too.
Comparing him to the Masters of the Universe Classics editions, such as the vintage-toy inspired release by Mattel, and Filmation-inspired figure released by Super7, this is a great representation of the character that is also inspired from the Filmation series, while paying homage to the vintage toy with all the parts included.
Comparing him to some of the Cartoon Collection figures in Origins, as well as the Concept Art Hordak and Grizzlor figures, he also fits in perfectly with the line. Some of the parts, such as the torso, heads, arms, legs, connectors, joints and accessories are also compatible with other Origins figures, so you can swap out some of the parts with those of other figures.
Overall, Modulok is an excellent figure that you need to own and add to your collection. This pays a great representation to the Filmation series, and the level of detail and fun capability is off the charts! Make sure to grab him and additional figures now!
