In the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic books by Mirage Comics, by original creators Eastman & Laird’s original run, April O’Neil was originally a black woman, and white-washed later on in the series. This concept might not be known enough to fans as almost all of the cartoons, and films she has been white, with the exception of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mutant Mayhem and Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

April O’Neil is packaged in a window box, with the Mirage Comics inspired artwork and logo’s on all sides, and comic book panels with figure images on the back.
April O’Neil is inspired by her first appearance in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book series by Mirage Comics, and she was first a black woman before they changed her appearance. He comes in a brown leather jacket, blue pants, a red shirt, pink and white sneakers, all with black ink lines inspired from her comic book drawings.
Her head sculpt is quite impressive and accurate to the comic book, with nicely done sculpted facial details, and painted eyes, lips and gold earrings. Her hair is long and curly, and painted in a dark brown.
Her articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.
She includes three sets of interchangeable hands (neutral, grip and closed fisted). Interestingly enough, that’s all she comes with, and the rest of the accessories are for Professor Obligado.
Professor Obligado is a member of the Utrom race, otherwise known as the Krang. The Utrom are a brain-like species with their appearance, and they captured the likeness very well here. He comes with a green hat that is sculpted to the top of his head, with black trim, a pink brain for a body, with black lines. His facial details includes eyes that are almost hidden due to the hat, and a mouth. There is also a hole in his mouth for his pipe.
He includes a pipe, interchangeable tentacles, one holding a purple bottle, a pickaxe, a brush, and a gray jar. All of these accessories can be held in the tentacles, which is a nice tough. His inly points of articulation are swivel tentacles x 2.
Overall, April O’Neil and Obligado are great additions to the line and make an interesting looking additions to your toy shelves. It’s not everyday you can buy a 7″ black April O’Neil figure as this version of her rarely sees a release, or never is more accurate.
