Krampus is the demonic creature that is opposite to Saint Nicholas and instead of rewarding well-behaved children with small gifts, he punishes badly behaved ones. He gets summoned to towns when a child looses their Christmas spirit, taking entire families with the help of his dark Elves, leaving the one that summoned him as the only survivor and hands them a bell with his name on it to keep. The film has become a cult classic and it entering its 10th Anniversary this year, and for the first-time, a Krampus action figure is being offered that is inspired by this film. The film originally did better than expected at the box office, making $61.5 million worldwide on a $15 million budget. In the film, Krampus had a number of dark Elves helping him abduct humans and going house to house, leaving the one that summoned him and his family last, abducting them, and heading back to his underground lair. Der Klown was reviewed here.

Krampus is packaged in a window box with an opening flap, with artwork on all sides featuring the character in various poses, including his hand over the snow globe with the house inside on the cover, his name and logo, and images of him on the sides and back. The back also includes Krampus inside a snow globe, and a description.

In the film, Krampus was shown as a big, bulky, demonic and the dark resemblance of Saint Nickolas (Santa Claus). This figure pays a great tribute to his on screen appearance, and he stands roughly 10″ tall, and comes in a long red robe with a black wash over it, torn and ripped parts, and dark red stripes. The robe has sculpted textures, and beige plush trim around the head, arms, and along the bottom at the feet. This part of the robe has sculpted textures that’s rougher compared to the rest of it, but on Santa Claus this would be the softest part of the robe. Attached to the robe are chains, which are non-removable, and some part of it has gold locks. At the back and at the bottom, the chain has a bell at the end that he can drag behind him, which is a nice touch.

His head sculpt resembles that of Saint Nicholas (Santa Claus), but with a dark twist as his eyes are black, with red eye balls, a black mouth with beige teeth, more teeth deep inside the mouth (which is something I don’t recall from the movie, but it’s a great touch!), a long grey beard with a wash, a grey mustache, and nicely done facial details with wrinkles on the skin showing he’s very old. Sculpted on top of his head are two large goat horns, that are both curved and given a great likeness and paint applications.

Krampus includes two tongues that go inside his mouth, one curved, and the other pointing downward. The box shows the tongue pushed all the way into the mouth, but it’s hard to recreate this and I was concerned about having difficulty taking it back out, so I didn’t apply force when pushing the back part of it into the mouth. Both of the tongues look great and create dynamics poses and iconic scenes from the film.

Also included are 7 interchangeable hand sculpts, each with their own purpose and inspired from his various scenes and poses from the film. My personal favorite are the clawed hands that allow him to hold accessories, the neutral pose that come on his wrists fresh out of the package, and the pointy finger hands, as those to me are the most memorable. Some of the fingers also have rings, which you may recall from the film. The hand skin tone is grey, with long black claws, and even the palm of the hand has a claw.

Also included is a snow globe with a house inside, and if you watched the film until the end, you’ll recall the cave full of snow globes with the houses, which are filled with humans and families in each one that he’s captured from each time he was summoned when someone lost their Christmas spirit. Also included is a box that you can place the bell or the bell in wrapping inside, and it comes with a lid.

Finally, Krampus also includes trinkets that can be placed on the chains, and used to decorate him as shown on the sheet of instructions. These have hooks that fit through the loops of the chains, with some big, and some very tiny bells. Some of these have bones sculpted to them, probably from human or animal, and you can place them anywhere you like.

Here’s a closer look at those trinkets, which are small and some could be easily lost such as the bells, so be careful when handling him.

On the bottom he is flat, with some hollow under the suit, and you can see both his hooves that are given sculpted fur, a hole on the bottom of the hoove, and flat at the bottom.
His articulation is also limited, but given his size and character design that shouldn’t be a surprise here. He is given a ball jointed head and neck, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, swivel-hinged wrists, and swivel ankles.

Overall, Krampus pays a great likeness to the source material and I for one have waited 10 years for a figure like this inspired from the film. So this release does not disappoint and has been well worth the wait. Every aspect about this figure is incredibly detailed and you can tell the design team went above and beyond with this release, giving fans the best possible likeness and accessories. Krampus is a great addition to your horror collection, and at the very least makes a great holiday decoration. Make sure to pick him up now at BigBadToyStore!
