Onyx Prime was the eighth member of the thirteen to be produced by Primus, which were created to serve as his children and warriors against Unicorn. Onyx Prime transforms from a bipedal robot mode into a winged centaur, and into a more traditional quadrupedal dragon.

Onyx Prime is packaged in the standard Leader Class window box for the line, with artwork, logo’s and images on all sides, and the back includes a look at him in both modes. Included is a sheet of instructions for transforming him.
Onyx Prime is a beast of a figure, with four different options to transform him according to the instructions. He is given a unique design with references to an eagle, horse and gargoyle or dragon, with spikes, horns, and angular cybertronian angles. Both the robot and beast mode include the wings, and he is mostly light brown, with some dark brown, black, silver, and gold, along with red eyes in both modes.
The head sculpt looks great and you can pull down the top part to reveal a eagle mask, which is a nice touch.
In robot mode, his articulation includes a ball jointed head and neck, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel wrists, hinged fingers, swivel waist, swivel-hinged hips, hinged knees, hinged ankles, swivel-hinged wings, upper swivel wing.
The bow also becomes a tail in this mode, which can be placed on the back.
The centaur mode includes the two additional horse hooves that are found over his shoulders, with details on how to wrap them around and place them in front like this are shown in the instructions. This mode is more fierce looking as it gives him two additional legs, and these legs can be raised for posing.
 
His Triptych Mask has been replaced with a spearhead, and he also includes a bow, and the spearhead can be used as an arrow. The bow plugs into the front of the fingers on either hand, but it’s best to use the right hand for this as the bow is facing the correct way. The arrow plugs into the bow with a slot where it plugs into the hand. The spearhead/arrow connects to a brown pole that he can hold.
Here is a closer look at the Eagle mask, which pulls down over the robot face.
The dragon/centaur mode is just as menacing looking, with the wings able to be raised or lowered, with a head sculpt that includes a hinged jaw, horns, and glaring red eyes.
In this mode, his articulation includes a ball jointed head, hinged neck, swivel-hinged hips (x4 or x6 depending on if you have the horse hooves as the center legs), swivel thighs (x4), swivel-hinged front knees, hinged back knees, double hinged center horse knees, swivel-hinged front ankles (robot mode hands), swivel back ankles, hinged center horse hooves, swivel-hinged wings, and upper swivel wing.
Here is a look at the dragon/centaur mode without the center horse knees. The spearhead and black pole are placed on his back and used as a tail in this mode.
Overall, Onyx Prime is a great figure with an interesting design and transformation. As he is one of the 13 Primes, he makes a great addition to any Transformers collection.
