C.O.P.S. ‘N Crooks is a 1988 animated television series and Hasbro came out with a toy line based on this series, which was 6″ scaled action figures with the type of articulation that you see in Marvel Legends, which shows you that this vintage line was more than a decade ahead of its time. Chicken Fried Toys is offering a new 4″ line of figures inspired by the brand, with Marshal Sundown as the first release in this line.

Marshal Sundown is packaged on a blister card with the C.O.P.S. ‘N Crooks logo on the front, artwork of him on the cover, with additional logo’s, and the back includes shillouettes of additional figures that are yet to be announced, along with a bio for him.
Marshal Sundown is inspired by his vintage toy appearance of the late 1980’s but also has some elements of a generic 4″ cowboy figure that Chicken Fried Toys is known for. While the colors are there, some changes were made such as the scarf being bulkier, new shoulder pads, the belt has the pistol holsters on the hips rather than the thighs, and the torso is given a sculpted light grey piece that is also attached to the shoulder pads, whereas the vintage toy only has painted clothing over the torso. Despite these differences, this is Marshal Sundown and he comes in a his iconic vintage toy colors, including light grey, brown, and red, with a silver belt and pistol holsters, and a Marshal badge that needs to be glued onto his upper chest as it comes unassembled in the package.
His head sculpt looks great and pays a good likeness to the character, but it’s also a bit different being that this is a smaller scale figure, compared to the 1980’s 6″ figure line, and the fact that this head could also pass off as a generic cowboy character. As this is 4″ scale, which is what Chicken Fried Toys offers, The scarf is also bigger than what you see on the vintage toy and in the cartoon, which is something that Chicken Fried Toys cooked up to make it their own design to a degree.
Marshal Sundown includes a Chicken Fried Toys base with their logo on the front, and three pegs for him to stand out. The holes in his feet however are too big or the pegs on the base are too small, whichever you which to explain it, so in this case he doesn’t have that extra support here to help him stand. At least that’s the case for this particular figure.
Marshal Sundown also includes two silver pistols, that can be stored in the holsters, or placed in his hands. The vintage toy did not come with his pistols, so this is the first-time that the character includes these accessories, which is a very big deal for fans of the series.
His cowboy hat is also removable, and can be placed on his head or in one of both of his hands. The hat resembles the one that came with the vintage toy.
He is also fully articulated, and includes a ball jointed head, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, double-hinged knees, and swivel ankles.
Overall, It’s been almost 40 years since Marshal Sundown has been made into an action figure and Chicken Fried Toys is filling in that void with this new release. C.O.P.S. ‘N Crooks is a great brand that has been overlooked and ignored for decades, which is something that fans of the series have noticed.
