Excalibur #1 was published by Marvel Comics in 1988 and combined both the X-Men and Captain Britain franchises, and often taking place in the U.K. This is a team that consisted of Captain Britain, Meggan, along with three former members of the X-Men: Shadowcat, Nightcrawler, and the second Phoenix, Rachel Summers, daughter of Jean Grey. The series ran until 1998 with 125 issues, featuring the wedding of a de-powered Captain Britain and Meggan.
This wave includes Astonishing X-Men Beast, Phoenix (Rachel Summers from Excalibur), Silver Surfer, Black Widow, Daredevil and Feral.

Phoenix is packaged in a blister card and the same type of card as seen in the first wave of the Marvel Legends mini-comic series. This includes artwork such as an image of her in comic book format on the front, the Excalibur logo, and the back includes a look at the rest of the wave, and a look at the comic book cover for Excalibur #1.

Phoenix (Rachael Summers) is given an all-new sculpt and comes in her comic-accurate red outfit with tiny silver spikes sticking up from the torso and arms. The spikes have a tiny bit of sharpness to them, and stand out as the rest of the outfit is a solid dark red.

She comes with two head sculpts, one the Rachel Summers, and the Phoenix Force likeness with the black lines, eye shadow and yellow eyes. Both head sculpts have red lipstick, and light brown hair with a tiny ponytail in the back.

Phoenix includes two sets of interchangeable hand sculpts, including neutral, right closed fisted, and left open grip.

The Phoenix wings are also included and slide right into the forearms, by first removing the hands. These are translucent yellow and red plastic, sculpted to look like flames extending from the forearms.

Also included is a Excalibur #1 mini-comic, with the original comic artwork on the front, and the Marvel Legends and Hasbro logo’s on the back.
Her articulation is also standard for this era of Marvel Legends, including a ball jointed head and hinged neck, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.

The Excalibur team from 1988-1998 are near completion, and all that’s left is Nightcrawler. Hasbro did release Nightcrawler in the Wendigo build-a-figure wave that’s close to the Excalibur appearance, so that may be your best bet assuming they don’t offer a new one based on this particular comic. Captain Britain, Meggan, and Shadowcat were offered as a 3-pack.
Overall, Phoenix is an excellent figure with a great likeness to the source material and a lot of great detail. This is an essential release for X-Men and Excalibur fans looking to complete this team, so hopefully you’ll pick her up and additional figures from this new mini-comic wave. Make sure to grab Phoenix and additional figures now at BigBadToyStore!
