One of the Thirteen Primes, Amalgamous Prime is based on his designs from the Covenant of Primus book, and the Transformers One animated film. His appearance looks like a hunchbacked, four-armed robot, that transforms into a frog-like spider-tank, and the parts are detachable and can be re-arranged to form alternate configurations and separate mini-vehicles, or weapons and armor that can be used for other figures.

Amalgamous Prime is packaged in the standard Voyager Class window box for the line, with artwork, logo’s and images on all sides, and the back includes a look at him in both modes. Included is a sheet of instructions.

Amalgamous Prime has two variations of his robot mode, and this is what he looks like coming out of the box. In this mode, his head is on top and he’s not a hunchback like his other mode, and the back armor for the other mode is used as his chest in this mode.

The second variation looks like this, with his head forward and his torso parallel to the ground, and the back has that hunchback look. Both modes includes four arms, or two is you wish to fold the back arms and place them to the sides of his back. This mode also looks more alien looking as opposed to an Autobot that uses a vehicle from earth, and also something close to what you would see in a live-action Transformers film.
He is primarily grey and black, with yellow, silver and red details.

The head sculpt is oval with curves, with one eye that is actually a T-Cog (looks like a Spark) that is removable from inside the head.

Included is a scythe, which has a yellow handle, a transparent yellow blade, a blaster on the other side, and a T-Cog (transparent yellow piece) at the end of the handle.
In robot mode, his articulation includes a swivel head, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged shoulder joints x4, swivel biceps x4, hinged elbows x4, swivel wrists x4, hinged torso, waist rotation, swivel-hinged hips, swivel-hinged knees, and hinged ankles.

This is his frog-like spider-tank mode, and is a version of the War for Cybertron Trilogy “C.O.M.B.A.T. System” that you can create variations of this mode with his multi-mode shapeshifter design and the fact that the limbs and many of the parts have 5mm ports that can be split apart. This allows you to create and be creative with this design, as the parts can be moved around, or used for other figures. In this mode, his blaster faces forward and all four of his arms are used as his legs. I kept to what the instructions had showed, but basically the sky is the limited on the variations you can create, and the parts you can swap out from other “C.O.M.B.A.T. System” figures.

The biggest surprise is that his limbs and parts can be used to create tiny micro-vehicles as shown, and given that this is what is shown in the instructions, you can go ahead and create your own variations. The mini-train and jet have their own windshields using the arm parts, which is a nice touch.

Here is a comparison of him with some of the other Primes, and as you can see he definitely stands out from the crowd.
Overall, Amalgamous Prime is an excellent figure with a very creative approach to his design and I love how you can create many different variations of the character in different modes. As one of the 13 Primes, he’s essential to the collection so be sure to grab him and other figures now at Entertainment Earth.
