NECA Toys are now offering their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures April as the 5th Turtle figure as she appeared in Archie Comics. She is based on her appearance in the Winter 1994 special issue of Eastman and Laird’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures comic book series. In the comic, April is mutated into a mutant turtle by a Grem, which is an alien invader as seen in the Archie Comics. April was eventually turned back into her human form by the antimutagen.

April O’Neil comes in the standard window box packaging for the line, with artwork and logo’s inspired by the Archie Comics line, including images of her on the front and sides, comic panels inspired images of the figure on the back, and a look at additional figures below that.
April O’Neil appears to be given an all-new sculpt, and painted in a light green skin tone, beige chest ,brown belt, and a dark green shell on her back. Her headband, elbow and knee pads, and wrist bands are white, with black shading, and blue shading on the elbow and knee pads. There are also black detailed lines throughout the sculpt showing depth and definition. The belt has the letter A on the belt buckle, and the head band also has some of the blue shading under the eyes. The shell is lumpy, and given a sculpted texture and details in-between the grooves.
As far as the likeness goes, this is pretty good to the source material, and this is a version of April O’Neil that is so obscure and one that you never see made into a figure, so it’s great to see her make it into the line.
She comes with four head sculpts, each with their own unique facial expressions, with two of them showing the interior of the mouth, and white teeth. The bandana around the back is removable, and can swivel around, and you’ll need to place it on the back of the head that you wish to use. The unmasked head does not have a bandana, and you see the likeness of her without it.
The sheath has a clip on the back, which slips in-between the shell and the belt, and then press it down to better secure it into place. The sheath is white and given the blue shading, with black deco in-between the grooves. The sword is given a brown handle with black lines, white and blue shading, and a white blade.
In addition the four interchangeable head sculpts, April O’Neil also includes the sheath and sword, and three sets of interchangeable hands (open grip, closed fist, and clawed). Some flaking may occur when popping out the hands, as that is pretty much common with the NECA turtles figures, as the paint on the joints doesn’t always hold up when removing the hands on and off.
Her articulation includes a ball jointed head and neck, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed hips, double hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles. The elbow and knee pads get the way for the double hinged joints, and prevents the full range of motion.
Overall, April O’Neil as the 5th Turtle is an excellent figure and makes a great addition to the line. This is a fun version of April to own, so make sure to grab her and additional figures now at BigBadToyStore.
