Lio Convoy comes in a black box with white shipping box with black text on all sides, with Transformers, the Autobot logo, and 40th Selection Lio Convoy inside. The figure comes in a window box, and is inspired by the packaging of the vintage 1998 toy. Just like the vintage toy, the writing is all in Japanese, and the artwork includes logo’s, and images of the character and figure. The right side of the box shows different options for display and how to work the features. Inside is a sheet of instructions for the Transformation and a look at how the features work.

Lio Convoy is based on his vintage 1998 figure, and comes with a white body with sculpted fur and textures, a metallic gold mane, tail, with some red and metallic grey showing on the body. The mane is given sculpted wavy hair, and the head sculpt looks like a great homage to the vintage figure, with nicely done facial details, and a hinged jaw.
He is given new deco and a retooled lion head and mane, which is more show-accurate to the classic cartoon. This new retool allows him to more accurately recreate his “Lion Typhoon” attack, as well as longer extendable “Lion Claws” that can no longer be tucked away into their designated gaps in the lion arms and instead rest on the backs.
In this mode, his articulation includes a hinged jaw, hinged tail, ball jointed hips x 4, hinged front knees, double hinged back knees, and swivel back ankles.

The mane can be listed in four areas in both modes, and the blasters can be placed on the back of the on the top of the mane, or on the sides of the mane. The side and top panels on the mane can no longer point forward like it was seen on the vintage figure, due to clearance, a fully accurate Leo Missile feature cannot be done with this figure.

In robot mode, the likeness looks great, and you see more of the red parts, silver and blue, along with the white and gold and grey. The Maximal logo is on his chest in silver, and it’s on a hinged joint with his spark inside, in blue, grey and metallic silver.

His head sculpt is moly blue, silver, and metallic gold eyes. The head sculpt is that of a Prime, and given a great likeness.

The blasters can be stored on his back underneath the back piece, on top of his mane, or placed on his claws. The mane can lift up with the four pieces, and can rotate around, which is a nice feature. The claws are also stored on the front of the legs in beast mode, and can be brought forward in robot mode and used as a weapon.
His articulation includes a swivel head, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged elbows, waist rotation, ball jointed hips, double-hinged knees, and rocker ankles.
Overall, this is an excellent Lio Convoy figure that’s accurate to the vintage figure, with great paint applications, detailed features and likeness. Beast Wars fans are surely going to want to add this one to your collection. Make sure to grab him now at BigBadToyStore for $49.99!
