Super7’s ThunderCats Ultimates Cheetara and Tygra Figures are given new reissues this year for those of you that may have missed out back in 2022, and these have more accessories than their Deluxe figure counterparts. These are given the same sculpts as previously offered, with new tones of deco and keep all of their original accessories. Cheetara is sold separately, and that re-issue is not featured in this review.

Tygra is packaged in the standard Ultimates! window box, with some new updates compared to his first release. This new version of the back has a ThunderCats logo on top where the Ultimates logo was, Ages 14+, Ultimates! and Super7 logo’s above the window, an image of him on the bottom, and the ThunderCats logo and his name is located in a different placement also on the bottom, as the design of the box around her image and ThunderCats logo is newly placed. The back of the box almost remains the same, with the Super7 logo on the upper right in smaller text and in red, compared to in white. The placement of the figure and accessories remains the same in the plastic tray. The slipcover and brown mailer box are not included this time around.
Tygra is given a new clean look that is very similar to his release in the Deluxe line, with updated paint applications such as the the metallic gold deco that the first release had, including gold on the shoulder that looks like a crown, and the gold on the top of the boots. The outfit comes in his iconic colors, including the light and dark blue tones, teal, orange fur and black stripes, with a pale face tone. The teal on the outfit is also brighter compared to his Deluxe release, as well as the first release, which is one of his primary differences about this offering. He also has the ThunderCats logo on his chest, in a bright red and black. Aside from that, the stripes are also in different locations and patterns on this release, which is something unexpected. This includes the stripes on the head and forearms. The orange on the fur, which covers the head, neck and forearms, is given a darker tone compared to the Deluxe offering as well.
The head sculpts come in neutral, and a snarling expressions, just like what was included with the first release, but given updated deco and facial detail since that time. The neutral head is very similar to his Deluxe release, but this new Ultimates offering gives you the updated snarling head expression, which has not been offered since the first release.
Tygra includes his previous accessories that came with the first Ultimates release, including three sets of interchangeable hands (open grip, clawed and closed fisted), as well as his three Flail whips, posed, retracted and string. The light blue tones on the whips are also given a light blue, which is different than the Deluxe figure had, including gold handles. Both of the posed and string whips can be wrapped about this body, which activates his ability to go invisible as seen in the classic cartoon.
A comparison shows the brighter colors and the differences in deco, which is an improvement over his original release, and the updated teal deal that the Deluxe figure had.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ab crunch, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, hinged knees, hinged calves, hinged and rocker ankles.
Overall, Tygra looks great and captures the likeness of his classic design perfectly as he appeared in the classic cartoon. It should also be noted that Tygra was originally sculpted by the Four Horsemen Studios, as he was one of the first figures released in the line, so any figure using this sculpt after that was done in house and repainted by Super7. Fans have waited 40 years for ThunderCats action figures like this, and Super7 surely has not disappointed here. The attention to detail and character likeness is pretty much spot on, and the accessories really round out the character nicely. This is surely the best Tygra figure released to-date in this line given how he has the updated deco and amount of accessories. So make sure to grab yours at BigBadToyStore!
