The fan-favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 series is getting cartoon accurate action figures by NECA, and these have the best likenesses ever offered. The Footbots are enhanced robotic soldiers created by the Kraang Hive Mind and gifted to Shredder to use as his personal army against the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. These are similar in appearance to the human counterparts that were seen earlier on in the series, but the Turtles defeated them too easily and Shredder needed better soldiers. These Footbots have the ability to morph into a more formidable battle form with deadly weapons and better fighting skills. In addition, these Footbots can also rapidly extend another pair of arms that are also capable of possessing the enhanced weapons.

The Footbots come packaged in a window box with an opening flap that comes down, with artwork featuring the characters, logo’s, and the back includes images of the figures along with a description. Both figures come packaged in a plastic tray, along with their accessories and interchangeable parts.
The Footbots are inspired by their appearance in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 series and are given all-new sculpts. These are similar in appearance to the human counterparts seen at the beginning of the series, with extra limbs on the back that are removable, which are used to place the weapons on so they can use them in battle against the turtles. Both figures share the same sculpts, and comes in black and dark gray ninja outfits, with the upper arms and legs featuring bulky sleeves and pants, but the arms and legs are thin. The limbs on his back is the same way as that was how he appeared in the series. He includes a sheath on his lower back for the small sword.
He is fully articulated, and includes a ball jointed head, ball jointed neck, ball hinged shoulders, ball hinged back limbs, ball hinged elbows (arms), ball hinged elbows (back limbs), swivel wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, ball hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.
The head sculpt features a great likeness, with the red bandana and the Foot insignia on his forehead, with the red bug eyes and black mask.
The Footbots include a scythe, mace, a long and short sword, three sets of interchangeable hands (open grip, neutral, and karate chop), a sheath that fits over the torso for the long sword, and two interchangeable head sculpts.
The weapons and hands are interchangeable and can be placed on any of the four top limbs, as seen in the series. The weapons and hands can be placed on the back limbs, or his front arms to your liking, and just plug into the joint. The weapons are on the fragile side given how they were designed, so be careful as you swap out and move the parts. The short sword and long swords can be placed in his open grip hands, and stay in pretty well.
The back limbs are removable, and you can also use the limbs on the arms for the weapons as shown. There are two ball joints on his back that the limbs plug into.
His interchangeable head sculpt features the left eye popping out after being damaged in battle, and the rest of the head sculpt is just like the other one. Popping off the heads and replacing them was a bit challenging, so be careful.
Here’s some comparisons with Shredder and Leonardo of the 2012 series. The team paid close attention to the height and how they appear compared to other figures.
Overall, the Footbots came out great and pay a great likeness to the source material. While the figures and parts are fragile, the likeness is so well done and the fact that the weapons can be moved around and placed on another limbs is a nice touch. The series had shown the Footbots using more weapons such as a drill bit and saw, but sadly those weapons are not part of this offering. Regardless, this is definitely a must-buy!
