Marvel’s Secret Wars was one of the most memorable story arch’s in the 1980’s, which ran from 1984 – 1985 in March Comics, and also had a great toy line by Kenner. The story puts Marvel’s heroes and villains against each other and placed on BattleWorld by the Beyonder. Hasbro is now offering a full wave of Secret Wars figures in their Marvel Legends line, which includes Captain America, Iron Man, Wolverine, The Beyonder, Titania and Spider-Man.
In the comic, Spider-Man uses a fabricator, which is a device that can create anything you think of. Spider-Man uses this device to repair or create a new suit, and it creates this black sphere that makes his spider sense on alert, and morphs into a black goo that gives him this black suit.

spider-man is packaged on a blister card with artwork and logo’s inspired from the vintage Secret Wars toy line of the 1980’s by Kenner. The back includes an action shot of him, a description, images of the wave, and instructions of the shield that includes a hologram.
Spider-Man appears to be given an all-new sculpt, inspired from his appearance in the 1984 Secret Wars comic book storyline by Marvel Comics. The sculpt is lean and muscular, and smooth as opposed to the red and blue outfit with sculpted groves. Spider-Man is cast in black plastic, with the white spider-man insignia on his chest and back, white triangles on his wrists, and white eyes on the head sculpt.
He includes two head sculpt, one with a wide open eyes, and the other squinting.
Also included are three sets of interchangeable hands, including closed fisted, open grip, and web shooting, and the shield with a hologram.
The shield includes a hologram that shows Spider-Man and Peter Parker. You can also open up the shield and replace the hologram with a Secret Wars logo piece.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head and hinged neck, ball hinged shoulders, butterfly shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ab crunch, ball joined hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel calves, hinged and rocker ankles.
Comparing him to other Symbiot Spider-Man figures, his sculpt is shorter compared to the Spider-Man Retro offering a few years back, which was repainted a number of times. This sculpt is also smoother compared to that sculpt, The logo on the chest is also not as big, and shorter as it does not go all the way down his torso and back. There is also a difference on the wrists, as the Retro offering has squares, and this one has triangles.
Here is a comparison with the rest of the wave, and he fits in nicely with the collection.
Overall, Spider-Man is a great figures and a really good homage to the vintage 1984 figure by Kenner. This is definitely an essential offering considering the new sculpt (at least it appears to be). Make sure to grab Hasbro’s Secret Wars wave at BigBadToyStore!
