Captain America and Venom are based on their appearance in the classic Marvel vs. Capcom video game of the late 1990’s, which saw some of the better known characters from both brands fight each other in a 2-player video game. Blue seems to be the theme of this set given its pairing, and interestingly enough this is how Venom appeared in the game, as well as the 1993 Venom Lethal Protector limited edition comic book series, which was out years before the game.

Captain America and Venom are packaged in a window box with he Gamerverse logo and artwork, including their logo’s in 8-bit that is inspired by the video game Marvel Vs. Capcom, the sides include video game images of the characters, and the back features both figures in fighting poses, their statistics from the game, and beautifully done artwork. Both figures are packaged in a plastic tray along with their accessories.

Captain America uses some shared parts with the 20th Anniversary figure sculpt used to celebrate the milestone history of Marvel Legends, and is given newly tooled head, upper chest, shoulders, biceps, and cuffs. This is an improvement over what’s come before, and the sculpt is smooth, muscular, and lean. He comes in his classic red, white and blue suit inspired by the game, but not given the 8-bit pixelated deco that would have been more accurate to the source material. He includes a white star on his chest, red and white stripes on his abdomen and lower back, a black belt and a dark metallic silver belt buckle.

Included are two head sculpts, one neutral, and one screaming with an open mouth, showing his teeth and tongue. Both heads have the A on their foreheads, wings on the sides, and includes openings for the eyes, ears, and lower parts of the face.

He also includes two interchangeable sets of hands (closed fisted and thumbs up), a shield and a power strike effect that connects to the shield.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head and hinged neck, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, waist rotation, ball joined hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel boots, hinged and rocker ankles.

Comparing him to the 20th Anniversary and Secret Wars releases, this new version is similar to them, but the new parts stand out compared to what’s come before and the head and torso are the biggest differences overall, aside from the lighter shade of blue with the Secret Wars release.

Venom is a repaint from the Venom multipack that had included Agony and Riot, and this time he’s blue and white, compared to more recognizable black and white. This suit was used in the video game, and it’s a simple yet effective repaint. The white lines and Venom insignia on the chest and back are crisp, but with some fading lines.

His head sculpts include an unmasked Eddie Brock head showing his facial details, along with some of Venom’s such as the left eye and red tongue. The other head is all Venom, with white eyes, sharp white teeth, and a red tongue with green slime.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head and hinged neck, butterfly shoulders, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ab crunch, ball joined hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.

Venom also includes two sets of interchangeable hand sculpts (closed fisted and claw).

Overall, both Captain America and Venom are great offerings and features a good likeness to the source material. Captain America especially is an improvement over prior releases. Venom is a nice repaint and a version of the character that you relatively don’t see, so it’s good to have the blue one in plastic form. This is probably going to be one of this years most memorable Marvel Legends 2-packs so you’re definitely going to want to grab this set.
