X-Men ’97 is the continuation of the classic X-Men: The Animated Series, which originally ran from 1992 – 1997, which is also inspired from the pages of Marvel Comics. This series is going to be one of the most memorable in recent history, given the strong fan push for a revival. Considering it ended on a cliffhanger in 1997, getting this revival is nothing short of pure enthusiasm that the creators and fans have for this series. In celebration of this series, Hasbro is offering a new wave of action figures on retro cardbacks, and this wave includes Emma Frost, Morph, Jubilee, Cable, Sunspot and Logan.

Cable and Morph are packaged on a retro style blister card, with images of the animated style characters on the front, X-Men ’97 logo, and the back includes images of the figures and a look at the rest of the wave.
Cable makes his return in X-Men ’97 and Hasbro’s Marvel team really went all out capturing his likeness, and comes in a light blue blue armor vest with dark blue stripes, light and dark grey shoulder pads, green and red harness, brown belt with a silver belt buckle, grey details and sculpted pouches, dark blue pants with brown thigh pouches, green and yellow boots with grey at the bottom. His left arm is metal, with green gloves on both hands, and a green bicep band with pouches on the metal arm.
His head sculpt looks great, and includes white hair, the telekinesis black deco on the left eye, black eye browns, painted lips, a grey communicator on the right ear, and nicely done facial details.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head and hinged neck, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.
Included with Cable are a big and small blaster, each includes a black effect that’s the same as seen with other figures, and two sets of interchangeable hands (open grip, right closed fisted, left open grip).

Morph also returns in X-Men ’97, which is definitely a pleasant surprise and if you remember in X-Men: The Animated Series, he was captured by Mr. Sinister and used as a pawn. Morph comes in his classic X-Men blue and yellow outfit, with a red belt and black X-Men logo as the belt buckle, along wit ha brown jacket with sculpted pouches, and another X-Men logo in red and black on the upper left.
Morph includes three head sculpts, X-Men ’97 grey head, X-Men ’92 human head with black hair, and a Henry Gyrich head. The next remains grey and stands out when the human and Henry Gyrich heads are on, and because it’s grey these heads don’t look right on the body. Head head has its own merits and Hasbro’s team did a great job capturing the likeness. The Henry Gyrich includes the glasses, and each has nicely done facial details, and two with sculpted hair.
He also includes two sets of interchangeable hands (closed fisted and neutral).
His articulation includes a ball jointed head and hinged neck, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ab crunch, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.
Here are a comparison with the X-Men: the Animated Series VHS Morph figure. As you can see, the new sculpt gives you a better likeness to both the ’92 and ’97 series.
Overall, both Cable and Morph are excellent figures with a great likeness to the source material, and make great additions to the line. Cable is my personal favorite of the two given his attention to detail and accessories, but getting this new Morph figure is also a treat. Make sure to grab both figures now to add to your X-Men ’97 collection.
