The results are in and Hasbro’s Marvel Legends Secret Wars line is a hit, all inspired by the classic storyline. which ran from 1984 – 1985 in Marvel Comics, and also had a great toy line by Kenner. The story puts Marvel’s heroes and villains against each other and placed on BattleWorld by the Beyonder. This wave includes Constrictor, Falcon, Daredevil, Magik, Spider-Man (Alien Costume) and Absorbing Man.

Absorbing Man is packaged on a blister card with artwork and logo’s inspired from the vintage Secret Wars toy line of the 1980’s by Kenner. The back includes an action shot of him, a description, images of the wave, and instructions of the shield that includes a hologram.
Absorbing Man is given an all-new sculpt and depicted from his appearance in the 1984 Secret Wars comic book storyline by Marvel Comics. The sculpt is big and muscular, with a shirtless torso and arms, and purple pants with black lines with sculpted textures, a black belt, and black shoes.
Absorbing Man includes two head sculpts, each with unique facial expressions, a bald head, and a shaved beard with paint applications. The facial details include black eye shadow, black eye lashes, blue eyes, white teeth, pink lips, and additional nicely done facial details giving him a good likeness.
Also included are two sets of interchangeable hands (closed fisted, right open grip, left open hand), along with his signature ball and chain weapon of choice. The ball and chain is dark grey with a metallic finish, and can be held into his right open grip hand.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head and hinged neck, ball hinged shoulders, butterfly shoulders (very limited movement), swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ab crunch, swivel waist, ball joined hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.
The shield includes a hologram that shows Absorbing Man in two forms by moving it up and down. This includes his flesh form, and one of his stone forms. The first wave had shields that you can open it up and replace the hologram with a Secret Wars logo piece. This release does not have an extra piece to be swapped out, but you can still open the shield and replace it with a logo piece from one of wave 1’s offerings if you prefer.
Back in 2017, Hasbro offered Absorbing Man as a build-a-figure, which was an 8″ figure with interchangeable parts showing off his mutant abilities. That figure is being compared here with this new release, which is actually shorter than the build-a-figure offering and does not have the mutant ability interchangeable parts. The ball and chain is also smaller, as it’s meant to work with this new release.
Here’s a comparison with all of wave 1’s offerings. Absorbing Man is around the same size as Titania, which is taller than other figures in the line.
Overall, Absorbing Man is a great figure and a welcome addition to the line. This is definitely an essential offering considering the new sculpt and how badly this line needs more villains for the heroes to fight. Make sure to grab Hasbro’s Secret Wars waves 1 and 2 at BigBadToyStore!
